My name is Giles Birch and I would like to thank you for visiting. This new website not only signifies a fresh design, but a consolidation of our company. Sierra Essence's business has grown considerably in recent years working in Spain, and it's set to grow even more in the not-too-distant future. We believe our name captivates some of the flavour of what we strive to offer you in this unique area of Europe which offers visitors almost everything, year round: mountains, seashore, sun, snow, monuments, sporting and cultural events, as well as incredible midnight-to-breakfast night life.
In November of 2006 Sierra Essence became the Ski specialist element of the company, "Sierra Essence Ski & Mountain Center 2006 S.L.". It is registered according to Spanish law as an intermediary booking agency for all aspects of Skiing and Activity related holidays and breaks, including accommodation & transportation arrangements as well as ski & snowboard instruction via it's it's sister company and ski school in Sierra Nevada, the "British Ski Center". |

The company is registered in compliance with "Turismo Activo" with the Junta de Andalucia regional government, REF: AT/GR/00030.
Our website intends to provide easy access to all our ski and alternative products & information through clear, intuitive navigation, clearly defined text formats and layout, improved images as well as a simple initial enquiry booking system allowing you to place your requests for all aspects of your trip into one simple format as opposed to sending multiple emails for distinct products. Our breaking news for the winter of 2008-9 is the incorporation of two new ski destinations located in the Spanish Pyrenees, Formigal & Panticosa. I not only learned to ski in these resorts some 27 years ago, but have returned on numerous family holidays during both winter and summer. In recent years I still escape to the area whenever I can find the time. This contact with the area for nearly three decades has provided me with many valuable friends and contacts, whom I am delighted to be able to share with you.

At the bottom of every page you will find our email address, along with a link to more extensive contact information, our booking terms & conditions and privacy statement.
Our three main objectives are:
- To provide you with as much useful information concerning the ski & mountain destinations and the surrounding areas listed.
- To introduce you to alternative rural areas & destinations of interest (also via Essence Travel: www.essencetravel.co.uk) within the Iberian Peninsula & the activities available to get to know them. These may be places you may not have heard of before but which make extraordinarily varied and authentic holiday destinations to redefine any preconceptions held previously.
- To provide you with a no-frills booking process in English from everything from your accommodation and airport transfers to our wide variety of activities and hiking programmes.
Background Information
Giles has lived on and off in Andalucia & the Granada area since 1993 and has been a permanent resident in the Genil Valley, near Granada, since July 2002.
Skiing has become a fundamental element driving him through life since his early days as a child learning on family holidays. When the ski season comes to an end, he finds endless pleasure in exploring the mountains & villages around Granada. His travels have extended to many other regions of Spain, both in and out of Andalucia, including the Pyrenean regions of the Tena Valley, the Ordesa national park and the Benasque valley. Since 2002 he has spent significant time in the province of Jaen and it's historic, vibrant mountain town of Cazorla and the immense pine covered mountain range of the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas. Subsequently, through meeting his Portuguese wife Marta, he has spent many rewarding visits discovering neighbouring Portugal and its beautiful rural Eastern Algarve.

Much is already known about the developed areas of Marbella & the Costa del Sol as well as the western Algarve from Albufeira. However, outside these areas there remain many more authentic places to discover. At Sierra Essence & Essence Travel we continually strive to focus on redefining your preconceptions of these countries by introducing you to alternative insights and to create a friendly and uncomplicated facility for you to arrange with confidence your trip to these lesser-known areas and sample the true essence of the local cultures.
With Sierra Essence & Essence Travel, you have all the advantages of a flexible, tailor-made trip and the confidence of dealing with people who live and know the areas and who speak the local language should you require any assistance during your stay.
Our accommodation offerings have developed through working relationships with local agencies and hoteliers as well as directly with property owners. All accommodation listed have been inspected by members of the Sierra Essence team and found to maintain acceptable to high standards of facilities, management and upkeep. If you have accommodation in any of the areas covered by our websites please contact us with your details and we will look into including it.
